Hello!
I'm Raymond Zhou,
a software engineer and
a web developer.
About Me
I am an all-around programmer who's always looking to expand my knowledge.
My studies started in physics and not computer science. Physics taught me to investigate systems new to me and find out what makes them tick. I like to think this has carried over to all aspects of my life. And this has been a huge help in my programming.
When I started at Meditech, a medical software company, I quickly picked up their inhouse programming language as well as the healthcare industry knowledge I needed. More recently, I am doing the same with React and other web development tools. I'm looking to approach future challenges with the same enthusiasm! It's always great to pick up a new skill!
Outside of work, I really enjoy board games like Terraforming Mars and Dungeons & Dragons. I also enjoy climbing and other outdoor adventures. (That's me on the wall in the picture above!)
Projects
Tech Stack: React, Redux, ES6, Google Firebase
Do you play tabletop story based games like Dungeons and Dragons? Do you run into problems finding that tiny little fact about your world you wrote down 6 months ago? This web app is aimed at game masters like you. Quickly record information in draggable cards, then search it up quickly at a moment's notice.
DM Kit Web Application
2020 - Present
Web application for data organization geared towards storytelling hobbyists.
Established foundational code for DM Kit using Javascript, React, Redux, HTML and CSS.
Programmed draggable objects using the react-rnd React component with the goal of increasing organization speed for users.
Implemented save states using the redux-undo React component allowing users to undo and redo up to 10 steps of work.
Constructed a searchable library using Javascript with the goal of allowing users to quickly filter through their entire project for specific information.
Designed an online database structure using Google Firebase (NoSQL) allowing users to access a project with 100s of card objects within 3 seconds.
Collaborated with a UX designer to create a more accessible format for users.

Resolved issues in patient data transmission between Meditech EHR and third party systems using MAGIC (proprietary programming language), XML and Wireshark supporting over 50 client hospital sites.
Designed, coded and tested custom functionalities based on case by case hospital specifications using MAGIC completing ~20 customs a month while adhering to HL7 and CCD messaging standards.
Developed, delivered and documented software patches to address standard version code issues using Jira creating ~100 code changes per year.
Devised and executed emergency plans to correct patient data corruption in hospital production systems using MAGIC resolving ~2 emergencies per year.
Delivered standard product improvements, such as RESTful API infrastructure using MAGIC to meet federal Promoting Interoperability guidelines for over 50 client hospital sites.
Reduced the client services task backlog while fulfilling active tickets using MAGIC, HL7, XML, CCD and Wireshark lowering the log task count by over 300 tickets a year.
